Werdum hopes to return to Strikeforce in March 2011
After ending the Russian's 10-year unbeaten run Fedor Emilianenko, the gaucho Fabricio Werdum He underwent surgery on his left elbow to remove 27 bone fragments that had been hindering his arm movements for almost two years.
According to Werdum, the operation was a success and, thanks to physiotherapy, he is now able to perform some movements on the ground, with 70% of his maximum strength. The Brazilian hopes to return to training next November to be in a position to fight in Strikeforce in March next year.
“I am happy with the result of the surgery. My goal is to regain full movement in my left arm as quickly as possible. In addition to physiotherapy, I am stretching my tendon with a device called Dim Fist with the aim of shortening the rehabilitation time”, said the black belt.
Werdum will travel to Europe next month, where he will give several seminars in Spain, France and Croatia. The fighter also commented on Strikeforce's newest signing for the heavyweight division: American Josh Barnett.
“This was a great addition to the event. However, I still don't think about facing him, as my focus is on a possible rematch with Fedor (Emelianenko) or a title fight against (Alistair) Overeem”, he highlighted.
The duel between Fedor and Werdum took place in June this year and the Brazilian surprised everyone by submitting one of the greatest fighters in history in the first round (triangle armbar).
