Belfort will face Okami for the chance to fight for the UFC middleweight belt
UFC 122 will take place on November 13th in Germany and will be headlined by a fight between Brazilian Vitor belfort and Japanese Yushin Okami. This confrontation gains importance, as the UFC organization promised the fighters that the winner of the fight will be the next challenger for the event's middleweight belt, currently held by the Brazilian Anderson Silva. This decision was taken as Chael Sonnen He will probably not be able to compete in the rematch against Silva, as he failed the anti-doping test after the fight that took place last month against the Brazilian at UFC 117.
Vitor belfort e Anderson Silva were scheduled to face each other at UFC 112, held on April 10, in Abu Dhabi. However, due to a shoulder injury, Belfort was forced to give up his title challenger position to the fellow Brazilian. Demian Maia, which ended up being defeated by unanimous decision of the judges. During Belfort's post-surgery recovery period, Anderson Silva defended his belt again by winning Chael Sonnen at UFC 117 via submission (triangle choke) in the fifth round of the fight.
Belfort is a former world light heavyweight champion. Ultimate and champion of the UFC 12 heavyweight GP, where he defeated Tra Telligman and Scott Ferrozzo on February 7, 1997. The Brazilian athlete has stints in Pride, Cage Rage and Affliction, making his UFC debut in September last year against North -American Rich Franklin, where he needed just three minutes to achieve victory by knockout. Okami already has nine wins in 11 fights in the UFC, beating the Filipino in his last fight Mark Munoz by split decision from the judges at UFC Live 2, held on August 1st of this year.
