The referees and judges were defined for the most important fights of the night. The fight between the Brazilian and the Irishman will have veteran Herb Dean as mediator. Dean has refereed four McGregor fights and two Dos Anjos fights.

If the fight reaches a decision, the judges will be Derek Cleary, Sal D'Amato and Junichiro Kamijo. Interestingly, this is exactly the lineup that would judge the fight between McGregor and José Aldo, at UFC 194, if necessary.

Of these, Cleary has been present at some controversial decisions in recent years. He was “vote defeated” in the fights Daniel Cormier x Alexander Gustafson e Holly holm x Rachel Pennington, pointing victory to the athletes who ended up defeated. Additionally, Cleary gave Joanna Jedrzejckyk the edge over Claudia Gadelha, a result that is contested to this day.

The co-main fight of UFC 196, between Holly holm e Miesha Tate for the women's bantamweight belt, John McCarthy will be the referee and Chris Lee, Marcos Rosales and Glenn Trowbridge will be judges.
