Chinese fighter debuts in WEC this month

Tiequan Zhang debuts on American soil

World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) will feature a Chinese fighter on its card for the first time in its history. The newly hired Tiequan zhang will face the North American Alexis Karalexis in the 51st edition of the event, scheduled for the 30th, in Broomfield, in the United States.

Zhang, 25, is a lightweight and member of China Top Team, where he trains alongside former Brazilian Top Team (BTT) member Ruy Menezes. “The Mongolian Wolf”, as he is known, has a purple belt in jiu-jitsu and will have his first fight on North American soil. In his last fight, Zhang beat New Zealander Daniel Digby by submission (guillotine choke) 30 seconds into the first round at Legend Fighting Championship 2, held on June 24 this year in Hong Kong.

WEC 51 will have as its main attraction the fight for the featherweight belt between the Brazilian José Aldo, current champion of the category, and the challenger Manny gamburyan. Check out the full event card:
