In December of last year, Chris Weidman was defeated by Luke Rockhold and lost the UFC middleweight belt. However, the coach of the now former champion stated that his athlete was unable to perform at his maximum due to an injury.
In an interview with the website of the North American broadcaster “ESPN”, Ray Longo revealed that Weidman participated in the fight with a fracture. “If you want to know the truth, he was all broken. His foot was fractured in two places. We tried to find a way, but I think it affected him mentally, because he couldn't push the pace right away”, said Longo.

Longo acknowledged that he was in a difficult position as a coach. “He has fought injured before. I've seen this guy go through trials by fire in the past, but as his coach, I feel bad. I should be firmer on this. Sometimes you have to go up to them and tell them not to fight.”
Weidman will at least have the chance to immediately avenge the defeat he suffered. In June, at UFC 199, the former champion will face Rockhold in an attempt to regain the belt.
