The head coach of Conor McGregor, John Kavanagh, believes it would be “fantastic” if his athlete decided to move up in weight once again and challenge the welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler, at the historic UFC 200 event, scheduled for July 9th.

McGregor, featherweight champion, will compete in the top category, the lightweights, against the owner of the weight belt, Rafael dos Anjos. If he wins, the Irishman would make history and become the first to be champion in two different UFC weight categories simultaneously.
However, it probably won't stop there. “Speaking of welterweights, I saw that the rumors surrounding a fight between Conor and Robbie Lawler for the 77 kg belt at UFC 200 they gained strength. It's not something we've discussed specifically, but after Conor wins the lightweight belt, it wouldn't be a surprise if his next fight was for the welterweight title,” wrote Kavanagh, in a column on the Irish website “The42.ie”.
“If it’s something Conor wants to do, I’ll fully support it. It would be fantastic. We are already talking about making history in a few weeks, but can you imagine what would happen if Conor arrived at the [European] summer as champion of three categories?”, said the coach.
For the plan to be considered, McGregor will first need to defeat Dos Anjos in the main fight of UFC 196, an event that will take place on March 5, in Las Vegas (USA).
