Doctors want to ban MMA in Canada

MMA has become popular around the world in recent years, however, this expansion has opened up space for people who go against the sport. This week, the Canadian Medical Association (AMC) proposed banning the modality in the country. According to professionals, the sport causes irreversible damage to the fighters' bodies.

“MMA poses a risk of severe head trauma and other types of injuries that can last a lifetime for athletes. In MMA, unlike other sports such as hockey or skiing, the intention of the participants is to make their opponent unable to react”, said the official AMC note.

The ban request is also presented ten days after the province of Ontario, the largest in Canada, released MMA events from 2011. Now, seven of the ten Canadian states already allow MMA events.
