Used to doing everything to ensure that UFC fights go ahead as planned, president Dana White now regrets having accepted that a fight would take place without ideal conditions. In an interview, the president showed a photograph of the young man's throat infection Sage Northcutt just before his most recent fight, against Bryan barberena, and showed that he felt guilty about the result of the fight and the loss of the invincibility of the organization's new “darling”.
“The kid really wanted to fight and I let him fight, but he was f***ing sick. I messed up. I did everything wrong, but a lot. The boy was super sick and yet he wanted to fight. His father said, 'Listen, we want to take this fight, we want to take this fight.' I should have taken him out of the fight”, said Dana, to “BigBoyTV”.
Even before the director's statement, Northcutt himself had already commented on the illness that affected him days before the fight against Barberena. “Two days before the fight, I had a very serious throat infection and had to go to an emergency clinic. The UFC had to take me away and then the doctor prescribed me more antibiotics, and that kind of thing. So I really can't explain how bad I felt there. I was feeling really bad,” he said at the time.
