The 50th edition of World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) takes place today in Las Vegas, United States. The show's main attraction is a rematch between the current bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, against Joseph Benavides.
Dominick Cruz is responsible for Benavidez's only career defeat, in August of last year. With fifteen wins and one loss, the Californian hopes to successfully defend the event's under-61 kilos belt.
“I’m looking forward to defending my title for the first time. I need to prove that I am the best in the world, my life depends on what I do in my career as a fighter”, said the current champion. Benavidez, on the other hand, has a record of 12 wins and one loss, against Cruz and is “thirsty” for a rematch.
“He is an opponent with a unique style,” says Benavidez. “Obviously I'm motivated to get that belt and avenge my only loss. I feel possessed just thinking about it”, he said.
The only Brazilian on the card, Frédson Paixão will be in action on the preliminary card against Bryan caraway. Check out the complete WEC-50 card, which will be broadcast live on Canal Combate from 22 pm.
