Despite yet another legal defeat and having to cancel a card scheduled for April, the UFC is not giving up on what seems like its biggest goal: finally promoting an event in New York City. Now, the organization plans to promote a fight night in the largest city in the United States at the end of 2016.
“We're still going to work hard and get here to New York, Madison Square Garden and the entire state. This is 100% our highest priority. We are very confident that 2016 is the year and the next date we have planned is November. We are committed to bringing the UFC to New York,” said Ultimate's vice president of public relations Dave Sholler, during an event in favor of the legalization of MMA in New York.
Currently, New York is the only one of the 50 North American states to ban the practice of professional MMA. The ban came into force in the 90s, shortly after the only event in the history of Ultimate in the state, in the city of Buffalo. In this way, the city of New York, with the legendary Madison Square Garden gym, remains the only one among the major cities in North America to not have received a card for the biggest MMA event on the planet.
