Mauritius Shogun is another MMA fighter starting his career in cinema. The Curitiba native, former UFC light heavyweight champion, announced that he will appear in the film “Kickboxer”, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and which should be released in 2016.
The fighter himself revealed the news in a short video released by the “ESPN” website. "I am really happy. I'm going to shoot a movie with Van Damme called 'Kickboxer'. It's a dream come true. You will definitely see me in the movies very soon”, said the fighter.
It has not yet been detailed what Shogun's role will be in the film. However, it is already known that the film will feature several MMA fighters, such as Georges St Pierre, Fabricio Werdum, Cain Velazquez, Tyron woodley and former athlete Gina Carano.
The remake of the original 1989 film tells the story of a fighter, Kurt Sloan, who tries to avenge the death of his older brother during a kickboxing competition in Thailand. Sloan will have to defeat the feared Tong Po with the help of Xian Chow, his brother's former mentor.
At UFC, Shogun has not yet made his next commitment official. The organization plans to schedule a fight between the Curitiba native and the former champion Rashad evans in April, but nothing has been confirmed.
