When Ronda Rousey was defeated by Holly holm in the women's bantamweight title fight, an immediate rematch was the most likely path and the historic UFC 200, scheduled for next June, seemed the logical option to host the second duel between the rivals. However, according to the former champion's trainer Edmond Tarverdyan, the chance of Ronda returning to the Octagon in mid-2016 is minimal, and there are many reasons for this.

“I can't see this fight in July. It's too early. Ronda had three fights last year alone and deserves a rest. We talked and Dana White agreed. He is very fair and completely understands”, said Edmond, to the North American channel “ESPN”. “If you stop to analyze it, she was putting on one fight on top of another. It's okay that the fights were quick, but it's not about the time spent inside the octagon. It's about training. It's about her training hard and dedicating herself 100% all the time. It ends up being hard on the body. Ronda went through a lot, she needed surgery on her knee... We don't want to go through that again. We need to relax, take our time, and get her into her best shape, physically and mentally,” she added.
While Ronda Rousey, whose professional record in MMA is 12 wins and one loss, takes some time to rest and steps away from the Octagon, Holly holm remains active and at full steam, including her first belt defense already scheduled. On March 5th, in Las Vegas (USA), Holm will face the challenger Miesha Tate, victim of Ronda twice, in the co-main fight of UFC 197.
