It will not be this time that the UFC makes its long-awaited debut in New York City. Federal judge Kimba Wood denied the organization's request to overturn the ban on MMA, meaning the sport remains illegal in the state.

The information was first provided by the website “Fightland”, which obtained access to the documents issued by the judge. Wood claimed that the UFC's argument had no legal basis for approval – the company stated that, as MMA is legal in 49 of the 50 North American states, the ban in New York had no basis.

Therefore, the UFC will not be able to hold an event at the Madison Square Garden gym, which was planned to happen on April 23rd. The organization's plans consisted of putting together the UFC 198 card in the legendary arena, possibly with the participation of local fighter, Jon Jones, on his return to MMA.
