The announcement that your executioner Conor McGregor will move up a category and compete for the lightweight title without giving up the featherweight belt did not please the Brazilian at all José Aldo. A month after the knockout suffered by the Irishman at UFC 194, Aldo criticized the way Ultimate has responded to all of McGregor's requests and assured that he will not accept another fight next that is not a title fight.

“When we signed the contract, the intention was that the winner would fight in the upper weight class, but we would have to give up the belt in the lower category. That was right, that's what they told us. If we fought at the top, win or lose, and had the opportunity to fight in the lower category, it would be straight for the belt. I think they gave him a lot of wings, they let him grow a lot, nowadays he is playing, sending a lot more than them. I think this is wrong, no one has ever done this. It doesn't matter if it's money or not at this point, what matters is showing who's in charge, who's the owner, who's the boss, not just some shit talking about something where you see that he doesn't deserve to be where he is. I have always respected all merits, but he had much more luck than merits”, said Aldo, in an interview with the “PVT” website.

But the former champion didn't stop there. “Right after the fight, Dana went to the locker room and told us that the next fight would be against Frankie Edgar for the belt, because Conor was going to move up to the lightweight division, because he wasn't able to make weight. I, for one, obviously want a rematch with him, especially given the fact that there was no fight. Neither of them fought, it was just one punch that he managed to connect and won the fight. Beautiful, congratulations, but it wasn't what everyone expected. But I don't live for that, for me I always live for tomorrow. If it's a rematch or a fight for the title, it doesn't matter, but, of course, one day we'll fight again, yes, I know I'll beat him, I know I have the ability. The next step, as I told you, I don’t see another fight and I also don’t accept another fight other than for the belt”, he assured.

At 29, José Aldo has a professional record of 25 wins and two losses. After suffering his first defeat in ten years, with a knockout in 13 seconds to Conor McGregor At UFC 194, Aldo stopped being featherweight champion for the first time since the category was founded in Ultimate and fell to seventh in the weight-for-weight rankings.
