McGregor campaigns to have a face on the euro currency in Ireland

Irishman's petition will be voted on by his home country's parliament and fighter could be on local €1 coins

Many MMA fans felt that Conor McGregor was in delusions of megalomania when asking for, and getting, the fight against Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title immediately after knocking out José Aldo in 13 seconds and win the featherweight belt. That's because they hadn't yet seen the Irishman's latest idea. McGregor now has a personal campaign and wants to have his face immortalized on the one euro coin in his home country.

The Ultimate champion has already filed the petition and it will be analyzed by the Irish Petitions Commission. The fighter, however, put pressure on social media and asked for his fans' support. “Who wants a million of these beautiful coins? It would be a real honor for me to be immortalized on Irish €1 coins. Thank you to my fans for the petition. Come on, Oireachtas (term meaning 'parliamentarians' of Ireland)! #VoteYes,” wrote McGregor.

The request, however, will not be fulfilled. The Petitions Committee rejected the proposal due to the fact that it was unable to contact the author of the proposal. McGregor then took to Twitter to joke about the situation: “It was good while it lasted! Next time, let's try to put my face on that 500 euro bill”, wrote the fighter.

At 27, Conor McGregor He has a record of 19 wins and just two losses in professional MMA. After dethroning José Aldo, McGregor will try to repeat in Ultimate his feat in the European “Cage Warriors” event, in which he was champion of two categories simultaneously. Conor's big chance will come on March 5th, when he challenges the Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title at UFC 197, in Las Vegas (USA).
