It's difficult to find a fighter today more provocative than Conor McGregor. However, it is even more difficult to find someone to defend the controversial Irishman. And it was precisely this unusual role that the former lightweight champion took on Anthony Pettis. In an interview, Pettis classified the successive challenges aimed at McGregor as “boring”.

“I find it annoying to see everyone challenging him. McGregor has made a name for himself and all these guys are trying to take his shine. Sports is like this: someone is successful and then everyone wants to steal some of that”, said Pettis, who faces Eddie Alvarez at the end of the month, on the podcast “The MMA Hour”.

Furthermore, Pettis also said that he enjoyed seeing the loudmouth make numerous promises about José Aldo and fulfill them in the Octagon. “It’s great to see someone talk so much and then win José Aldo the way it was. There were several tough athletes on the way to José Aldo and none of them were successful. McGregor talks a lot, but delivers. This must be respected. It's great for lighter divisions. He is bringing the numbers, as he likes to say. People want to see him fight,” he assured.

Ultimately, however, “Showtime” discredited McGregor from one of his current goals: facing the Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos, lightweight champion. “I don’t think McGregor has a chance of beating Dos Anjos. On the other hand, he didn't bet on him against José Aldo and he was surprised. Conor is left-handed and the last time we saw Dos Anjos against an athlete like that was Nate diaz, which doesn't kick. At lightweight things are different,” she concluded.
