Many fighters use defeats as a learning experience, but the North American Neil Magny took the maxim to a completely different level. Last weekend, Magny went to a Brazilian seminar as a student Demian Maia, who beat him on the main card of UFC 190 in Rio, and reported his experience.
“He showed me how, at one point in my fight against Gastelum, I had taken his back, but then I ended up rushing and ended up losing position. He kind of focused on that during the seminar, which I thought was really cool. I mean, he continues to fight, in my division, and he didn't hold back on knowledge. He simply passed it on to me, showed me what I did wrong, everything I could learn and use later in my career. For him to do that really showed what kind of person he is”, said Magny, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.
Magny also said that he returned to Las Vegas (USA) after the seminar with Demian and that, during the journey, the two talked even more, which is why the North American praised the Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist. “Not many people would have done that. It was amazing of him to share this knowledge, opening up about some mistakes he made in the past so that I don't make them too,” he concluded.
