UFC president Dana White even promised that McGregor would defend his belt in Croke Park if he defeated José Aldo at UFC 194. However, Pat Gates, spokesperson for the residents, explained that this is not the desire of local residents.

“I don’t think it would be something we would want to see in Croke Park. Personally, I think the fights are very brutal and violent. I would be surprised if locals supported this sport. I don't know the type of people who follow him [McGregor] and the type of atmosphere it provides in terms of chaos and public order, but it is something we would be seriously concerned about," said Gates, in an interview with the Irish newspaper "Irish Mirror ”.

The newspaper recalls that musician Garth Brooks had to cancel several shows he would perform in Croke Park, even after tickets had sold out, precisely because of opposition from local residents. The UFC, however, has not yet confirmed any events at the stadium for next year.
