The fact that he announced his retirement just days before the announcement that he was the first athlete to be caught in the UFC's new anti-doping program did not spare the legendary Mirko Cro Cop from a severe punishment. USADA (North American Anti-Doping Agency) released a statement in which it announced a two-year suspension for the Croatian.

Cro Cop was caught in a surprise drug test carried out before UFC Fight Night 79, an event in which he was supposed to fight and ended up withdrawing. The heavyweight test showed traces of GH (growth hormone) in his body. The fighter admitted to having used the substance, but claimed that the doses were administered with the intention of helping with the recovery of a chronic injury to his shoulder.

One of the biggest names in the history of the MMA and K1 heavyweight category, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic has a record of 31 wins and 11 losses. In his last fight, Cro Cop knocked out the Brazilian Gabriel Napao in the main fight of UFC Poland. If he decides to rethink his retirement and return to fight after the end of his suspension, the Croatian will already be over 43 years old at that time.
