The opening of UFC Fight Night 78, an event held in Monterrey, Mexico, featured a 100% Brazilian duel. Michel Trator from Pará fought a very balanced duel with Michel Bidu from Bahia. But after 15 minutes of competition, Trator won in a split decision from the judges.

At the beginning of the dispute, Trator managed to find the distance first and landed good standing strikes. In the final minute of the first round, Michel connected with a cross that shook Bidu, but Valmir managed to avoid a takedown attempt and stay alive in the fight.
In the second round, Trator tried to maintain the rhythm of the fight on his feet and landed the best blows. But Bidu changed his strategy and got a takedown. On top, the Nova União athlete controlled the fight. Despite not striking forcefully, Valmir remained on top for much of the partial.
In the third and decisive round, Bidu started connecting some punches in the exchange, while Trator unleashed powerful right blows, but always empty. With the fight balanced on the feet, Michel changed his strategy and looked for the takedown, but Bidu once again defended and managed to stay on top on the ground. After the fight was inactive, the referee ordered both men to get up, and Trator once again looked for the takedown, but again without success.
At the end of 15 minutes of competition, the side judges scored the victory of Michel Trator from Pará in a split manner (29×28, 28×29, 29×28).
Erick Perez celebrates the Mexican fans
In the last fight of the preliminary card, bantamweight Erick Perez stunned the Mexican fans. Against Frenchman Taylor Lapilus, the home fighter fought a very competitive duel, but managed to win with a unanimous decision from the judges.
Perez used his takedown game to open up and face Lapilus, but the Frenchman almost surprised the local fighter with a guillotine choke. But after getting rid of the scare, the Mexican struck from above. With a good game on the ground, Taylon even tried an armbar, but to no avail.
In the final round, Lapilus pressed from the start in search of a comeback. The Mexican showed skill on the ground by defending takedown attempts, always staying on top on the ground.
