The new UFC champion, who was born in Albuquerque and still lives and trains there, was extensively praised in a document signed by the city's Municipal Council. In it, Holm is described as a “dedicated and talented athlete, with multiple boxing titles and has taken on the world of MMA with style”. Furthermore, the document states that Holm “maintains his humility, integrity and continues to serve as an example for those who want to achieve greatness”.
The Albuquerque City Council also promises to honor Holm as soon as the new champion returns from Australia, the scene of her achievement. “We invite our community to come together and celebrate our local hero as we want to honor her with a ceremony and parade,” she continued.
At UFC 193, Holm shocked the MMA world by knocking out the previously undefeated Ronda Rousey, with a beautiful high kick in the second round.
