Whenever a very dominant champion loses his title, it is customary for Ultimate to offer him a new immediate shot at the title. And it was not surprising that things would happen differently with Ronda Rousey, regardless of the brutal way in which the former judoka was knocked out by the new champion of the women's bantamweight category Holly holm at UFC 193. The matter was a consensus between president Dana White and even Holm herself, who commented on the matter at the press conference after the card in Melbourne (Australia).

“Obviously we don't schedule fights like that on fight night, but obviously a rematch makes a lot of sense now. This was one of the moments that make the fights so cool and so interesting. This is the biggest upset in UFC history. I knew it would be a good fight, Ronda had never faced anyone that matched her like this. Holm has four times as much experience as Ronda. And I knew all this when I booked this fight”, said Dana, even before the new champion arrived at the venue to be questioned by journalists.

In his speech, however, Holm went beyond the leader and took the opportunity to praise his rival. “I think the rematch makes sense. I've been on the side of someone who was defeated in a fight and I wanted a rematch, the chance to avenge my defeat. And we're talking about a champion like Ronda, who did incredible things. So, of course, she certainly deserves a rematch. I don't look at this belt as something I've already finished, I know there's still work to be done. I think a rematch is one of those implicit rules, almost common sense in this case, for me”, he guaranteed.

Regardless of how and when it happens, Ronda's hypothetical rematch for the women's bantamweight belt will be the blonde's first time “on the other side” of the Octagon. Since her debut in Ultimate Ronda held the belt in the 61,2 kg division and, after several successful title defenses, the former judoka suffered her first setback as a professional at UFC 193.
