The month of October is used worldwide for campaigns against breast cancer, through “Pink October”, and MMA could not be left out of this. The action “Be a Partner in this Fight” aims to raise awareness among men not to abandon their partners in the fight against the disease.

The campaign, created by the Porta-Voz agency, from São Paulo (SP), brought together UFC referee Mario Yamasaki and fighters Paulo Bananada and Marco Aurélio Borges, who wore pink with the aim of drawing attention to the cause.

“Many face rejection from their own companions and are abandoned after the disease is diagnosed or during treatment,” recalls Yamasaki. According to figures released by the campaign, around 30% of couples separate after being diagnosed with breast cancer, but reports from doctors indicate that the number of women abandoned by their partners could be much higher.

The action, which also encourages prevention, aims to restore the dignity of those who, in addition to their breasts, have lost their hair and, as a consequence of this, also end up losing their relationships. The beneficiary is the Barretos Cancer Hospital, which signs the campaign through its Cancer Prevention Institute.
