Dolce, who has worked with Hendricks in the past, stated that the former welterweight champion tends to become excessively heavy after his fights, which ends up leaving the process of getting down to 77 kg until the weigh-ins.

“It was certainly a comedy of errors, and that falls on Johny's shoulders for starting the training too hard. That's the way you work, thinking you can cut all that weight. But in your early 30s, you can't do that. With that percentage of fat, you cannot lose that weight in a healthy way. You start to dehydrate organs in the process, and I think that's when your body started to 'shut down'”, analyzed Dolce, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”.
