Shogun hopes to return to the UFC in March against Rampage

Brazilian says he is still recovering from shoulder surgery and hopes to be able to return to heavy training in December

Mauritius Shogun He is still recovering from recent surgery on his shoulder, but he is already thinking about what he would like his next commitment to be inside the octagon. The Curitiba native hopes to face Quinton Rampage Jackson in what should be the first UFC event in his hometown, in March, at the Arena da Baixada stadium.

“I respect a lot Rampage, we always talk when we meet, but this is a fight we both want. The UFC wants it, the fans want it too. It's inevitable. I hope he is free from his problems with Bellator, because it would be cool to face him again”, said Shogun, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

Shogun hopes he will be cleared to return to training later this year. “My shoulder is improving. The doctor told me that I will probably be free to train hard in December, so I think I could fight between March and April. As soon as he releases me, I'm going to the United States to train with Rafael Cordeiro”, added the fighter, referring to his former master who now runs the Kings MMA gym.

Shogun and Rampage They faced each other in the first knockout phase of the PRIDE GP, in 2005, with the Brazilian quickly winning by technical knockout. Interestingly, Shogun's most recent fight was another rematch from that same tournament, against Rogério Minotouro. At UFC 190, Shogun defeated his compatriot for the second time, via judges' decision.
