North American Floyd Mayweather was chosen by the World Boxing Council as the best boxer of the 2007 season. Julio César Chavez Jr. was chosen as rookie of the year.
Mayweather, with 39 wins, 25 by knockout and no defeats, beat Oscar de la Hoya for the light middleweight belt this year. Then, at welterweight, he passed the undefeated Ricky Hatton, accumulating five belts in five different categories.
Chavez Jr, son of the illustrious Julio César Chavez, achieved 34 victories, with 27 knockouts and one draw. The retrospect led him to be remembered as the best rookie of the year.
The Council also selected the best fight from last season. The fight chosen was the one in which Kelly Pavlik beat Jermain Taylor by knockout, on September 29th, in the middleweight category.
