During a press conference held by the UFC last week, Daniel Cormier took a jab at his next opponent inside the octagon. The light heavyweight champion stated that Alexander Gustafson is best remembered for a fight he didn't win, and surprisingly he said he needs Jon Jones, former title holder, return to the category to finally have a worthy rival.

Cormier refers to the so-called “Fight of the Year” in 2013, when Gustafsson had a very close fight against Jones, but ended up defeated. The Swede then took to social media to respond to the criticism, stating that he will be remembered for the fight in which he finally won the title.
“It doesn't matter what he thinks or believes: I'm going to take that belt on October 3rd. And once I have the belt, I hope you all stop talking about how close I came to taking the title from Jones. Instead, you will talk about my Cormier performance for as long as you want,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Furthermore, Gustafsson also took the opportunity to mock Cormier's physical form, known for its rounded shape. “I have to work hard and stay in as good physical shape as 'DC' is all year. At the moment, I believe my weight is good a month before the fight. I used a nutritionist, so my weight cut will be as good as 'DC'. I’m not going to give him an advantage there,” he said.
The fight between Cormier and Gustafsson will be the main event of UFC 192, on October 3rd. This will be the first title defense for Cormier, who won the belt in May by beating Anthony Johnson for the vacant title.
