The two, who will face each other on October 3rd, at UFC 192, are coming off fights against the same opponent: Anthony Johnson. “Rumble” knocked out Gustafsson in January, in Sweden, to confirm his position as title challenger. He ended up facing Cormier, losing via submission.

After losing to Johnson, Gustafsson appeared disillusioned and even stated that he thought about retiring from MMA. It is this statement that Cormier supports his argument, claiming that the Swede no longer has the same confidence as before.

“Not only was he destroyed, but he also spoke publicly that he was thinking about stopping fighting and looking for something else to do. You need to be fully committed to this sport. You can't have one foot out. My confidence is very high after hearing him say these things. You don't give up after losing. You pull yourself together and go after your goals again. Hearing him say this makes it seem like if Alex didn't have to fight anymore, he wouldn't have a problem with it. I'm not like that. I need to fight”, analyzed Cormier, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

The fight between Cormier and Gustafsson will be the main attraction of UFC 192, which will also feature duels such as Rashad evans x Ryan bader e Tyron woodley x John hendricks.
