Chad Mendes He already has a fight scheduled in the UFC, but he still hasn't gotten his mind off the defeat he suffered against Conor McGregor in July, for the interim featherweight belt. The American insists that the short period of training he had was crucial to the outcome of the fight, in which he lost by technical knockout in the second round.

Thus, Mendes would like to face McGregor again, this time under more normal circumstances. “[The short period of training] was 110% the determining factor in my defeat. I saw a lot of people saying that it was the kicks to the body that made me slow down, but none of those kicks hurt me. I know, he knows and everyone knows that if I had a full training period, I would destroy this guy 10 times in 10 fights. Of course, before the fight I say that I'm in great shape. I was training, I was in decent shape, but there's no way I can be in shape to fight five rounds in two weeks. I feel like he owes me a rematch”, said the fighter, in an interview with the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.
Mendes will face Frankie Edgar in December, at the event that will feature the TUF 22 finals. He believes that, if he wins, he would be close to fighting for the belt again. “It’s a fight that I know a lot of people have wanted to see for a long time. I've been watching Frankie fight for a long time and I knew that if he came to the featherweight division we would end up facing each other. The time has come and I'm excited. We have similar styles, with good physical resistance and mixing wrestling with striking. Whoever wins will be close to the title again, so I’m excited,” he commented.
