Despite statements by President Dana White that Miesha Tate would be Ronda's next opponent for the women's bantamweight division title, the event confirmed the former world boxing champion as Ronda's rival at UFC 195, on January 2, 2016.

The announcement was made by Ronda herself during her appearance on the program “Good Morning America”, on the North American channel “ABC”. “On January 2nd, I will fight Holly holm, who is one of the most decorated strikers we have in mixed martial arts. Not in the women's categories, not in the bantamweight division. Holm is a 19-time boxing champion and was once the best pound-for-pound fighter in “The Ring” magazine. This will definitely be my biggest challenge so far.
