Being an underdog is nothing new in a career. Fabricio Werdum, and the gaucho will not get rid of this role, not even as UFC champion. The Brazilian runs on the outside in the first betting numbers released for his first title defense, against Cain Velazquez.

The numbers are surprising, as Werdum is coming off a resounding victory over Velasquez, in June, when he finished to unify the linear and interim belts in the heavyweight division.

According to the specialized website “MMA OddsBreaker” Werdum appears at +130, while Velasquez is -160. This means that, in case of victory by the American of Mexican descent, the bettor will only win US$100 if he bets US$160; Werdum will yield US$130 if the bettor invests US$100.

The fight between Velasquez and Werdum has already been confirmed by the UFC, although the location and date of the fight have yet to be announced.
