Popó beats Argentine by knockout in return to Boxing

Acelino-PopoTime has passed, but Acelino Popó's power remains the same. At 39 years old, the biggest name in Brazilian boxing returned to the ring in style. Facing Argentine Mateo Veron, 'Mão de Pedra' knocked out his rival in an overwhelming way in the third round. The fight took place on Saturday night (15), in Santos (SP).

Known for his knockout power, Popó didn't want to waste time studying and immediately set out to end the dispute. Despite being almost 40 years old, the Brazilian's right hand took Veron to the ground in the first round. The central referee opened the count, but the Argentine returned to the dispute.

In the second round, Mateo scored the Brazilian's dangerous right blow and grew in the dispute. Without accepting the open exchange, the Argentine balanced the dispute, creating danger in the counterattack.

When the fight seemed to be in danger, with the difference of 13 years in favor of the Argentine, Popó settled the bill. With a straight right, the Brazilian took his opponent to the ground. The referee opened the count. Still stunned, Acelino hit Veron, who fell again.

The third knockdown of the round settled the score. With the Argentine stunned, Popó landed a right uppercut that ripped off his rival's mouthguard, resulting in the knockout.

With the victory, Popó scored the 40th victory in his career, 34th by knockout. He also has two defeats.

The victory moved Popó. The boxer cried in the ring where he received hugs from his children and a kiss from his wife. He climbed onto the ropes and thanked the crowd for their support throughout the fight.
