Official UFC commentator on broadcasts in the United States, Joe Rogan made a very controversial statement on the podcast he hosts, the “Joe Rogan Experience”. The American stated that several UFC fighters smoke marijuana, which is a problem due to drug testing.

Rogan, an admitted user and supporter of the legalization of marijuana, even said that there are more fighters who smoke than those who don't smoke. “That’s something strange about martial arts. A huge amount of UFC fighters smoke marijuana. I mean, a huge amount, and that's a problem when they go through drug tests. They need to stop smoking four weeks before the fight in order to pass the exam. There are more fighters who smoke marijuana than those who don’t,” Rogan said.

In the recent past, some fighters were caught undergoing marijuana tests, such as Nick Diaz, Thiago Silva, Matt Riddle. As it is recreational, with no purpose of improving performance, the drug is only prohibited in the so-called “competition period”, that is, 24 hours before the fight.
