The North American television station “KOAT” released images that show the Albuquerque police inspecting the car driven by Jon Jones shortly after the fateful traffic accident that cost the fighter the UFC light heavyweight belt.
At the beginning of the filming, the police show suspicion that the rented vehicle, a silver SUV, was in fact in the fighter's possession, based on the documents found in the car and the description of the driver by witnesses.
“Man, I wonder if this isn’t a fighter’s car. Jon Jones?” asks a police officer. “Oh, I wouldn’t doubt it, man. They said he was really tall”, replied a colleague, showing amazement.
Afterwards, the police find dirty clothes, money, condoms and marijuana, as well as a pipe used to consume the drug. Finally, one of them comments on what he believes will happen to the fighter: “Oh, he’s f*****.”
The accident
Early in the morning of April 27th, Jon Jones crossed a red light on an avenue in Albuquerque and hit a car driven by a pregnant woman. The fighter fled the scene on foot, returning a little later to get money from the car, without helping the victim, who broke an arm.
Jones turned himself in to police a few days later and was released on bail. Due to the episode, the UFC decided to remove the belt from Jon Jones and suspend him indefinitely.
