Currently with ten weight divisions, eight men's and two women's, the UFC may soon have more athletes in different categories. At least that's what the organization's official commentator Joe Rogan suggests. On his personal podcast, Rogan commented that he believes the current setup is insufficient and, surprisingly, cited the men's divisions as an example.

“I think the UFC will probably add more weight classes eventually because there aren't enough divisions. There are some very big gaps. As between 185 pounds (83,9 kg, middleweight) and 205 pounds (93 kg, light heavyweight), this is a huge range. I think there are guys who are 'in between', these guys who are too big for one category and too small for the other. So they could use a 195 pound category, I think splitting it every 88,4 pounds would be more reasonable,” Rogan said.

The last two times the UFC added categories to its roster they were women's. In December 2012, the organization promoted Ronda Rousey as bantamweight champion after acquiring the Strikeforce event. On July 16, 2014, the strawweight division was inaugurated with a fight between the Brazilian Claudinha gadelha and Finnish Tina Lahdemaki. The last men's category added was flyweight, with a four-man tournament held in March 2012.
