The first challenger to the Brazilian's belt Fabricio Werdum is defined. The UFC heavyweight champion will put his reign on the line against an old acquaintance: Cain Velazquez, from whom he took the title last June. The announcement was made by franchise president Dana White, appearing on the UFC Tonight program, in the USA.
The location and date of the fight have not yet been revealed, but the expectation is that a rematch between the athletes will take place in February 2016.
Werdum, who has an MMA record of 20 wins, one draw and five losses, submitted the former champion Cain Velazquez with a guillotine choke at UFC 188, June 13, in Mexico. The duel between heavyweights should have taken place at UFC 180, in November, but the American of Mexican descent was injured and the Brazilian faced and won Mark Hunt, for the interim belt. In the unification of titles, the Brazilian came out on top.
In turn, Velasquez has a professional record of 13 wins and two losses. The fighter will have his seventh consecutive fight against Brazilians. Before facing Werdum himself, he ended junior gypsy (three times) and Antonio Pezão (twice).
