Glover Teixeira he has experienced both sides of the coin in MMA in the last year. In April 2014, in the midst of a long undefeated streak, he challenged for the UFC light heavyweight belt. However, he ended up losing to the then champion, Jon Jones, and suffered another defeat against Phil Davis. Now, the Minas Gerais native is going through a difficult time in his career.

This Saturday (8), Teixeira will try to turn things around in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 73, when he faces Ovince St Preux. This time, the athlete guarantees that he has corrected some mistakes he made in his most recent fight, against Davis, especially with regard to the weight cut.

“I actually lost that fight. Truth be told, I was feeling unwell during my weight recovery. I'm not interested in making excuses. I'm already prepared for my next fight. But sometimes, right before the fight, something can go wrong. I had a hard time cutting and gaining weight back because I consumed so much sodium. It was my mistake. It was something I shouldn't have done as a professional fighter. I cut a lot of weight for that fight, but now I'm more focused. I'm lighter and working on my speed. After the fight with Davis, I was never heavier than 104 kg”, he said, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.

Now, facing St. Preux, who is coming off two consecutive victories, Teixeira says he is prepared to fight in any situation. “St. Preux moves very well. He has a lot of power with his punches. My strategy is the same as always: I will keep constant pressure and see where the fight goes. I would prefer to trade with him, but he's a guy who also likes to take takedowns. He even fell Ryan bader. He has good jiu-jitsu, he's quite complete. But so am I. As soon as we meet, we will separate the men from the boys,” he assured.
