This Tuesday (04), the World Series of Fighting announced the decision to strip the welterweight belt from Rousimar Toquinho and suspend him for an indefinite period after the Brazilian once again held back a submission for too long, this time against Jake Shields. The organization's decision, however, was heavily criticized by Toquinho's manager, Alex Davis, who, despite admitting his athlete's mistake, demanded an equivalent punishment from his opponent.

“The problem with Rousimar for me is that he holds onto the finishing touches for longer than he needs to. It's not that long that he holds on. That's how far he can take athletes. And that kind of thing can hurt, and it's really not necessary. I agree with everyone on this issue”, said the businessman, in an interview with the podcast “The MMA Hour”. “At the same time, if we are going to punish Rousimar for holding on to a submission for too long or hitting Jakes Shileds in the eyes more than once, we also need to punish Shields for punching him after the fight. I mean, we have to be fair,” he added.

Furthermore, Davis also questioned the legality of the suspension imposed by WSOF. “This is legally wrong. My attitude is: I understand, WSOF is coming with strong fan pressure. They have to respect the fans. But, if they don't want Rousimar as champion, that's their right. If they don't want him fighting at the event anymore, that's their right too, just to end the contract. But I have a problem with the way things were done. For example, if I kill someone, I'll go to jail for 20 years, right? But not indefinitely”, he compared.

“I will not let the WSOF suspend Toquinho indefinitely to the point that he cannot go anywhere and work. We're going to make sure that whatever the Nevada Commission says, we're going to follow through. But the way it happened was completely wrong and I really don't like the way they acted. I thought Ray (Sefo, WSOF president) was going to do something, he should have called me before coming to the media, as was in the contract”, concluded the agent.
