Touted as a possible next challenger for the UFC heavyweight belt, Andrei Arlovski gave little importance to the matter and stated that he has no intention of fighting for the title in his next appearance in the octagon.

The 36-year-old Belarusian stated that he is not at the point in his career to have to wait for the current champion to recover, Fabricio Werdum, who will probably only be able to fight again at the end of the year.

Arlovski, who has won three in a row since returning to the UFC, said he would like to fight soon for financial reasons. “I'm at an age where it's important to make money. It's cool to be champion and everything, but I've already been champion three times. As far as I know, Werdum is injured, so it would be unproductive for me to have to wait six months to fight for the title. My age doesn't allow me to wait and hope for something to happen. I want to fight right now. I have a family and obligations. A fight without the title would not be a problem for me”, he explained, in an interview with the YouTube channel “BSNews”.

Even so, Arlovski commented on Werdum's performance at UFC 188, in June, when he submitted Cain Velazquez and unified the heavyweight title. Contrary to the opinion of many, the Belarusian said he was not surprised by the Brazilian's performance. “When Werdum fought Browne and Hunt, he impressed me with the speed in his hands and boxing technique. But I didn't see any of that in the fight against Cain. On the one hand, I was happy about it. But on the other hand, I have to keep evolving anyway. When you stop evolving, you start to regress, so I have a lot of work ahead of me,” he commented.

The UFC has not defined exactly who will be the next challenger for the heavyweight belt. In addition to Arlovski, he would also be in the running Stipe Miocic, being that junior gypsy has also expressed his desire to fight for the title.
