José Aldo spoke out publicly for the first time since Conor McGregor won the interim featherweight belt after beating Chad Mendes last Saturday (11). The Brazilian, who will face the Irishman on a date to be defined to unify the titles, promised that he will “overcome” his rival and that he should return to training within two weeks.
Originally, Aldo was scheduled to fight at UFC 189, but ended up fracturing his rib shortly before the event. On Sunday, the linear champion spoke to the radio program “Rock Bola”, at the Maracanã stadium, shortly after his favorite team, Flamengo, lost to Corinthians. “I'm going to go over it, it doesn't matter when it is, your time will come. And, when it arrives, you can be sure that I will crush it”, said Aldo. “Today I'm recovering, and I think I'll be back in a maximum of two weeks. I'm going to do the tests and, as soon as the doctor clears me, I'm going to go back to training”, he added.
The fight between Aldo and McGregor should be held in the city of Las Vegas, in the United States. The Brazilian hasn't fought since October last year, when he beat the same Chad Mendes in a unanimous decision by the judges at UFC 179, in Rio de Janeiro.
