Everyone seems to want to “take a cone” from Conor McGregor after his victory at UFC 189, which earned him the interim UFC featherweight belt. This time it was Frankie Edgar who challenged the Irishman to a fight, which he would like to see happen before the title unification against the linear champion, José Aldo.

In an interview with the official UFC website, Edgar stated that he would like to fight McGregor, as it is not known exactly how long the Brazilian will be out due to his rib injury. “I think I'm next in line to fight for the belt. In fact, I went up to the octagon to congratulate Conor and ask why we wouldn't have a fight before his fight against Aldo. Who knows how long Aldo will be out?” said the former lightweight champion.
Projecting how the fight would go, Edgar ensured that he would not make the same mistakes as Chad Mendes committed at UFC 189, when he lost by technical knockout. “I move a little more than Chad and I think our falls are equivalent. I feel like I have good ground and pound and I don’t slow down like that,” he stated.
