More than having a UFC title fight with approximately two weeks of preparation, Chad Mendes faced another setback last Saturday (11). The American suffered a fracture in his right thumb in the initial moments of his fight against Conor McGregor, headlining UFC 189, revealed his manager.
According to the North American website “MMA Fighting”, Mendes did not detail exactly when he suffered the injury, but revealed it to his doctor only last Monday afternoon. It is not yet known whether the injury will need to be corrected surgically.
At the event in Las Vegas (USA), Mendes suffered the third defeat of his career when he suffered a technical knockout against the Irishman in the second round. The American replaced the injured player at the last minute José Aldo, for those who had already lost twice in the past. Thus, McGregor won the interim UFC featherweight title.
