Thomas Almeida shines and wins with spectacular knee at UFC 189

The only Brazilian on the card dispatched English veteran Brad Pickett with a beautiful flying knee

If the UFC 189 preliminary card wasn't the most exciting, the main card started in full swing. The only Brazilian at the event, the São Paulo native Thominhas Almeida opened the most important fights of the night with a spectacular knockout over Brad pickett, with a flying knee in the first seconds of the second round.

But, despite the good result, anyone who thinks the Brazilian had an easy time in the octagon is mistaken. Thominhas suffered two knockdowns very tough in the first round and went to the break at a disadvantage. However, the young Chute Boxe promise showed enormous recovery power and, at the opening of the second round, managed to land a well-aimed flying knee, which erased Pickett instantly.

After the duel, in an interview still in the octagon, Thominhas highlighted the importance of the result for his career and thanked his team for preparing for the duel. “Brad is a very tough guy, but I am forged in steel, I am Chute Boxe! We train a lot for this situation in the gym, as well as wrestling and jiu-jitsu, I’m prepared for anything”, said the bantamweight.

With the triumph, Thominhas Almeida expanded his professional record to 19 wins in 19 fights as a professional. At just 23 years old, the São Paulo native currently occupies 14th place in the ranking of the division up to 61,2 kg, but should move up a few positions in the next update of the list.

Brown beats Means in the only finish on the preliminary card

There were five decisions in the fights that opened the preliminary card of UFC 189, but the fight that closed the night's initial program carried all the expectations of action from fans and did not disappoint. Matt Brown and Tim means they stepped into the Octagon with no intention of leaving the fight in the hands of the judges and that was exactly what happened, with “Imortal” winning by submission in the first round.

At the beginning of the fight, Tim means He started by putting pressure on Matt Brown, who responded with a good elbow at his rival. McGregor's colleague loses in sleepy fight

In the warmest fight on the preliminary card, Irishman Cathal Pendred, teammate Conor McGregor na Straight Blast Gym (SBG Ireland), was defeated by the North American John Howard in a split decision by the judges.

In a fight in which practically nothing important happened, Howard had better moments in the clinch and showed more offensive movement than their rival, which was enough to guarantee the victory.

Despite the clear advantage for Howard, one of the judges still gave victory to Cathal Pendred and the American ended up winning in a split decision.

With the triumph, Howard ended a streak of three consecutive defeats. Pendred, on the other hand, put an end to the streak of five consecutive victories he had had since his debut in the Octagon.
