The new UFC uniforms, launched at a press conference in New York (USA) last Tuesday (30), divided opinions among the public – who even praised the models, but also made fun of the mistakes made by Reebok. Next challenger for the middleweight belt, the North American Luke Rockhold, sponsored by rival Adidas, echoed the criticism and mainly disapproved of the standards adopted by the event's partner brand.
“Everyone is similar, despite country variations. I'm afraid that fighters will lose their individuality. Will Khabib (Nurmagomedov) be able to wear that wig of his? And Tom Lawlor with his private entries? The fans like this, the public approves of these characters. It won’t happen again”, said the athlete from American kickboxing Academy, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
Starting from the next edition of Ultimate, UFC 189, on July 11th, all athletes will be required to wear one of the uniform options provided by Reebok. Despite being allowed to keep their personal sponsors, fighters will need to wear the uniforms at official Ultimate events, the organization's advertising videos, open training sessions and weigh-ins.
