The head coach of José Aldo, Dedé Pederneiras, stated that there is a divergence between the diagnoses made in Brazil and by the UFC regarding the rib injury that could take the featherweight champion out of the main fight of UFC 189.

According to the leader of the Nova União academy, Brazilian doctors still point out that there is a fracture in Aldo, and Ultimate representatives stated that the fighter suffered bone edema and a cartilage bruise.
“There is a medical report in Brazil and an evaluation in the United States. I'm not a doctor to say which is correct. I know he's hurt and his rib is hurting. He's using anti-inflammatories, so we'll wait and see if it improves. The fight is still on and we will evaluate him again next week. If he can't do any exercise to cut weight, he won't fight. This is not a concern”, clarified Pederneiras, in a press conference reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
Despite the immense expectations for UFC 189, Pederneiras stated that Aldo will only fight if he is in good condition. “He’s banned from doing everything now. If he moves, the injury won't heal, so he needs to rest. He's used to pain, but he's feeling a lot of pain right now. We will only let him fight if he is okay,” he stated.
The fight between Aldo and McGregor is scheduled for July 11th, in Las Vegas (USA). Ultimate has already announced that, if Aldo has to be cut from the attraction, Chad Mendes will replace him against McGregor in a fight that would be worth the interim title of the category.
