Your training partner José Aldo that ended up causing the UFC champion's rib injury still hasn't fully digested the matter. Alcides Nunes, responsible for giving the kick that caused Aldo's fracture, gave details of the fateful move and revealed that he was quite upset about what happened.
Alcides competes in the lightweight division, one above Aldo, and has an undefeated record in professional MMA, with five wins in five fights. According to him, the UFC champion's rib fracture was caused by a slip. “I threw a kick, but I slipped with all the sweat on the mat and ended up hitting his rib. I was imitating the way McGregor fights, with the things he does in the fight. I'm also left-handed and my style is similar to his, so they asked me to take part in his training. But I ended up slipping and causing this injury”, detailed the fighter, in an interview with the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
“I'm still sad about all of this. As a fan and as an athlete, I know this is devastating. I'm really sad. Aldo was in shape and prepared for this fight,” he continued.
So far, there is no official UFC position on Aldo's situation at UFC 189. The Brazilian still remains on the card, but will have to undergo more tests to decide whether or not he will be able to fight.
