UFC president Dana White has already said that the new heavyweight champion's next opponent will be Fabricio Werdum will Andrei Arlovski ou Stipe Miocic. However, if it depends on Werdum's coach, Rafael Cordeiro, the manager should rethink his position and consider an immediate rematch against the former title holder Cain Velazquez, beaten by the Brazilian on June 13th in Mexico.

“It’s hard to say names. I believe that Cain (Velasquez) deserves a rematch because of his record as champion. He was great, he did things that no one else did in the category and Fabrício will start to build his own history in the heavyweight division. But if anyone has to fight, I believe it's Cain. He deserves. I'm in favor of a rematch, no problem. For everything he did, I believe he deserves this rematch”, said Cordeiro, in an interview with “The MMA Hour” podcast.

According to Rafael, Werdum does not yet have an estimated date for returning to the octagon for his first title defense, as he is still recovering from some injuries. “He has some injuries at the moment. He received a six-month medical suspension. Right now, he is in Cancun with his wife and daughters, but I believe he will be back soon. Once he returns, we'll know how much he wants to stay away. He has some injuries. His knee is still injured, so we still need to see that,” he concluded.

Fabricio Werdum, 37 years old, has a professional record of 20 wins, five losses and one draw. The new UFC heavyweight champion and sixth place in the weight-for-pound ranking of the largest MMA organization on the planet, Werdum is undefeated since making his debut in the Octagon in 2012, and since then he has won less than six consecutive victories, the most their recent about Cain Velazquez at UFC 188.
