The TUF Brasil 1 champion in the featherweight category Ron Jason was the latest name to join the extensive list of athletes caught in doping tests for the use of illegal substances in the largest MMA organization on the planet. According to the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA), Jason tested positive for diuretics after UFC Goiânia 2, held on May 30th. For this, the athlete received a nine-month suspension and his victory over Damon Jackson was reversed into a I didn't answer (fight without result).

The substance found in Jason's exams is called “hydrochlorothiazide”. Diuretics are banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations because they help mask the presence of other doping substances, or even, in the specific case of MMA, contribute to accelerating the weight-cutting process in athletes. Jason also has the right to request a countertest, based on other samples also collected on the day of the event in Goiás.

In an interview with the “Combate” channel website, Jason said he was surprised by the news and assured that he will appeal the decision. “I’m already speeding up everything here with my managers. This is wrong. The most I took was vitamin C on the day of the weigh-in. We are looking into the possibility of the medication I took, since I was injured, to see if it has something to do with it. But there's no danger of it happening. I'll ask for proof. I have seven fights in the UFC and this has never happened. I took this news badly because it's something that doesn't exist. If I said that I had a beer, I would remain silent, but not a diuretic”, said the fighter.

At 31, Ron Jason He has a professional record of 14 wins, five losses and, now, one fight without result. In 2012, the Ceará native became the first TUF Brasil champion by beating his fellow countryman Geoffrey Pepey in the big decision, held at UFC 147, in Belo Horizonte (MG). Since then, Jason has had six other fights in the biggest MMA organization on the planet, all on Brazilian soil.
