If the entrepreneur Anderson Silva, Jorge “Joinha” Guimarães, had already stated that competing for a place in the 2016 Olympic Games was no longer part of the fighter's plan, the Brazilian Taekwondo Confederation (CBTKD) seems to have closed the door on Spider’s “Olympic dream” from the other side. In an interview, the entity's president, Carlos Fernandes, said he was surprised to learn of the decision through the press and also expressed his dissatisfaction with what he classified as the disappearance of Anderson, who has not responded to his contacts in recent days.

“We have not received any contact from Anderson. In fact, to be honest, Anderson disappeared. We sent a few emails, but he hasn't responded, we don't know what's going on. At no point did we say that he would participate in the Olympics, but he would participate in the selection process. I think his manager made a mistake on this point. But he did not speak directly to the Confederacy. For me, it's even a surprise. I think it would be even more ethical if he spoke about this directly with the Confederation”, said Fernandes, in an interview with the website “Globoesporte”.

The president also recalled the fuss made in the announcement that Anderson would seek a place in the Rio Olympics to demand more seriousness. “When Anderson spoke out, he came to the Confederation and sent a letter publicly. I don't know if he did this because of a moment he was passing by. But this isn't a joke. It is not an armed theater. The press doesn't go there, we don't speak out and then find out about it through a businessman. And the truth is this: he doesn't answer our emails. I think those who remain silent consent, right? If he’s not responding, he’s watching time pass…”, he pondered.

Despite the surprise, the director said that the story had already happened before, when CBTKD awarded Anderson the title of “Ambassador of Taekwondo”. “The Confederation is also sold on this story. In fact, it's not the first time. When we gave him the title of ambassador, he was decorated and disappeared too. I think the ambassador has to be present. Then he appears two years later, introduces himself. The Confederation has the manliness to make this public, he welcomes. He goes, speaks and disappears. If this really happens, it was very unethical. It’s not really a professional stance,” he concluded.

Currently, Anderson Silva is temporarily suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission, after being caught twice in anti-doping tests for the use of anabolic steroids and anxiolytics, before and after the fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 183. This Tuesday (09), the Spider requested a further postponement of the disciplinary hearing which will define his future, and now he must face trial only in August.
