UFC files petition to legalize MMA in New York

The legalization of MMA in New York, the only one of the 50 North American states that still maintains a ban on the sport, is an old dream of the UFC and one that seems closer every year, despite the history of failed negotiations with the state legislature. In order to put even more pressure on New York politicians, the organization started a petition on its official website in favor of the release of mixed martial arts in the state.

Through the special page “Help bring the UFC to New York” State residents can register and show their support for Ultimate's cause to legalize MMA. To complete registration, you must be a New York resident, enter your name, email address and zip code.

Earlier this year, rumors about the end of the soap opera regarding MMA regulation in New York grew with the departure of one of the sport's biggest opponents from the state Legislature. Soon afterwards, Ultimate managers and the star Ronda Rousey met with politicians in a private meeting. Press outlets in the United States reported that the organization had booked a date for the month of December at the legendary Madison Square Garden gym, but so far there has been no confirmation from the event.
